Gun Lobbyists Label Parents as "Idiots"
Two year old Alistair Grimason was shot while he slept in his pram. He was on holiday in Turkey with his parents. Since his death, his parents have worked to get 200,000 signatures on a petition to present to Turkey's government, hoping it will lead to increased prison sentences for those who break gun laws.
Imagine the shock his parents felt when they came across their names on the internet, labelled as "idiots" by pro-gun lobbyists in America. According to Sky News, "One message called the Grimasons 'emotionalists' who 'want to force Turkey into the same miserable gun control failure that was implemented (post Dunblane) in the UK.
"Another said: 'Not satisfied with their own gun control failures, the Brits are attempting to disarm the citizens of other countries as well.'"
I would not call the UK's gun control efforts a miserable failure. After all, there is less gun crime committed per capita in the UK than in the US, where gun control is less stringent. And there has not been a repeat of a Dunblane-type massacre in the UK, while there have been shootings in schools in the US that have led to multiple deaths.
For a Texan, I'm unusual. I believe in tight gun control. The UK has the right idea. I think gun supporters are scared of the impact that stories such as Alistair's will have on the public, so to his parents, keep your chins up and keep going!

Um "Idiots"? That's just the sort of reaction I'd expect from someone who's not gone through the sort of experience Alistair's parents went through, just the sort of reaction I'd expect from people for whom the word "empathy" has no meaning.
Who needs empathy when they want to take your guns away from you? I know who the idiots are in this case, and it's most definitely not the parents.
