Tsunami Appeal Update
I've made a personal donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee. It wasn't much, but it's not the only donation I hope to make. I'd like to make it a monthly thing because the people in Asia aren't going to have their problems solved any time soon.
The DEC has also made it easier to donate if you don't have a credit card but have a mobile phone. On their website it says you can text "DONATE" to 83321 and they will charge your phone £1.50, all of which will go to the DEC.
I read on the Sky News website that so far the British public has raised over £100 million! Wow. That's amazing and absolutely brilliant. Once this current emergency is over -- however long that takes, five, ten fifteen years -- the donations need to keep pouring in to help other people in need, such as those in Africa.
The handmade candles I'm auctioning on ebay with proceeds going to Oxfam has had two bids. That's more than I expected, actually. With me just being a private individual I didn't know if anyone would trust me enough to bid on them. I think it's great, even the £7.50 bid so far is enough to buy ten fishing nets to replace those destroyed in the tsunami. I'm hoping to get up to £10, but every little bit counts, so I'm grateful for the bids I've already had. And I'm paying the costs for the ebay listing, the final value fees and the postage out of my pocket. The winner gets the candles, and Oxfam gets the cheque. Pretty cool, huh?
